Custom colours and textures can be created for plating, to help designers achieve their visions

Some of the latest colours developed by Signature Plating to meet demand for calm tones

The aviation industry is on its way back, with a new set of priorities, says metal plating specialist Signature Plating. “OEMs, airlines and designers understand more than ever that cleanliness and sanitation have become a priority,” says Zane Leake, vice president of sales at Signature Plating. “As such, the trend to design a cabin environment that evokes calm and relaxation is becoming important. Science supports the idea that certain colours have a positive influence on the human body and emotions.”

Signature Plating has developed a palette of colours and textures to support these design initiatives. Natural colours, complemented by texture on a metal surface, can help designers to achieve their vision. Through the years, Signature Plating has custom-matched various finish colours and textures, from Pantone colours to specific leathers, fabrics, and so on. “We are able to match your colours easily, whether standard or custom, drawing on the expertise of years of success,” says Leake.

The company can take a baseline colour and create a custom range for customer review or for their colour library. This service is offered to all customers, but is especially important to those who are refining a design with a specific goal, such as to create a calming palette.

HighTech Finishing has worked to blend innovation and sustainability to benefit aircraft interior plating and design

Can you pursue innovation in aircraft interior design at the expense of depleting resources? Conversely, must you sacrifice innovation to achieve sustainability? “We do not subscribe to the belief that you are restricted to pursuing one or the other,” says Rick Niefield, vice president of sales and marketing at HighTech Finishing. “As a decorative plater, we strive for both innovation and sustainability to deliver a higher level of design without increasing our environmental footprint.”

The company says that the rapid growth of interior design technology has introduced new opportunities to pursue innovation without expending valuable resources. “Design ideas that previously required physical evaluation can now be analysed digitally before resources are expended,” says Niefield. “Additionally, technology has enabled organisations to refine processes intelligently, implement new methodologies, and gain visibility into their use of resources to reduce waste. Adjustments can be made in real-time, not when it’s too late.”

Seizing this opportunity to achieve the best of both worlds requires proactive thinking. HighTech Finishing has dedicated years of time and resources to realise gains in innovation and sustainability for decorative aviation interior plating at its facility in Houston, Texas, USA. The company has made large capital investments intended to enhance its processes, improve facility safety and reduce its impact on the environment.

“We leveraged world-renowned Toyota Production System methodologies to build ideal processing lines while limiting environmental impact,” explains Niefield. “We increased safety in the work environment with the availability of high-grade PPE and commercial-grade respirators. We invested in a robust water treatment plant to filter out potentially harmful contaminants. We were awarded a TCEQ gold star for our water quality.”

“Innovation and safety can be achieved with little or no environmental impact by investing in processes, people and systems,” he continued. “The result is a beautifully plated aircraft interior part that designers can be proud to utilise in their designs.”
